In Siliguri, 80-year-old Yuthika Biswas has been forced to protest on the roadside after her tenants refused to vacate her property. The house, located in the Tiknikata area near North Bengal Medical College, stands on a plot of three katha of land. Biswas had rented the property several years ago, but for the past few months, she has been asking the tenants to leave, as she intends to take possession of her house again.
The tenant occupying the property is Mukti Saha, who resides with his family. Biswas claims that she has repeatedly requested the tenants to vacate the premises, but they have refused to do so. According to Biswas, Saha is reportedly connected to a prominent local Trinamool leader, which she believes may be contributing to the delay in eviction. However, there has been no official confirmation or statement from any political party regarding the allegations.
The Biswas family, including Yuthika's son Sanjeev Biswas, initially approached the local Medical Police Camp to file a complaint. They were told that the police would not accept their complaint and were advised to resolve the matter on their own. Subsequently, they visited the Matigara police station, but again, their complaint was not registered. On December 27, the family filed a formal complaint at the Police Commissioner’s office, but as of now, no investigation has been initiated.
Despite the family’s repeated efforts, they have not been able to reclaim the property. When contacted, Saha’s wife stated that the family intends to vacate the property in March, after their son's exams. This promise has not yet been fulfilled, and Yuthika Biswas has resorted to public protest, sitting with a placard on the roadside in a bid to regain control of her property. The situation remains unresolved, with the elderly woman determined to reclaim her house.
